When we did the clutch in my friend’s e39, I did the linkage kit - piece of cake. Definitely a noticeable and worthwhile repair.

before getting a kit, may be worth just having a look underneath. I found two of the nuts in my shifter linkage were loose (damn whoever did my engine swap... whoops, that’d be me)
bushings and all were fine. once propertly torqued the difference was night and day
